(Moab Utah)-exnews-
The demand for fertilizer and a world shortage of a key ingrediant,
potash is fueling an increased interest in potash development in the
Moab area. The latest development involves British Columbia firm Ringbolt
Ventures Ltd., announcing yesterday that it has obtained data on 33
oil and gas wells on their Potash prospecting and exploration permits
in the Moab area of Utah. The cost of reproducing this data today would
be more than $15 million Dollars. The wells penetrated two significant
potash beds. The company is currently analyzing the rest of the data.
This project is located within 40 miles of Intrepid Potash's Moab Potash
Mine. The companies plan to conduct an aggressive exploration and development
program on their property. Ringbolt says recognizes the impending worldwide
shortage of potash for fertilizer usage, and accordingly has joined
forces with Bua USA LLC., a Southern Utah company based in Moab, Utah.
Ringbolt owns 90% of Bua USA LLC. Moab is in the Paradox Basin, one
of the largest known evaporate basins in North America. The basin is
believed to contain billions of tons of potash-bearing rocks in the
form of sylvite (potassium chloride). Bua has applied for 86,000 acres
of prospecting and exploration permits in the basin under application.

(Salt Lake/Moab
Utah)-exnews- The mission of the Utah Hospitality Association is, in
part, to update the state's liquor laws. The group has filed paperwork
to begin a statewide initiative to abolish Utah's "private club" concept.
Speaking on Salt Lake public radio station KCPW, yesterday, attorney
and board member Lisa Marcy McGarry says, "Utah is becoming less and
less provincial and more and more aware that we are a global economy.
We hear more examples of losing business, whether it be skiing or in
Moab, to Arizona, Colorado and California, The genesis is these quirky
liquor laws." Garry says that's another reason to do away with the need
for a private club membership. The group is waiting for the go ahead
from the state before beginning the process of holding public hearings
and gathering enough signatures to get the initiative on the ballot
in 2010. (exnews)
(Undated
Utah)-exnews- Soaring energy prices have inflicted Utah's oil and gas
industry with an acute case of black gold and natural gas fever. New
oil and natural gas wells in record numbers are springing up throughout
the state as energy exploration companies seek to cash in on the bonanza
of high crude oil prices and increasing demand for natural gas. Uintah
County was the largest producer of natural gas, followed by Carbon,
Duchesne, Emery, San Juan and Summit counties. Duchesne County is the
state's leader in oil production followed by Uintah, San Juan and Sevier.

>>Federal
Trade Official Pushes Free Trade Agreements, Praises Utah (Salt Lake
City, UT) -- A senior administration trade official has praised Utah's
export-oriented trade agenda and attacked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
in a speech to a group of Utah business people. Chris Padilla is the
Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, and he says Congress
should pass Free Trade Agreements with South Korea, Panama, and Columbia
right away to strengthen America's role in the world economy.
>>Flood Potential
Remains Low Despite Rain (Salt Lake City, UT) -- There is little potential
for flooding this week despite possible rain every day through next
Monday. Weather Service water expert Brian McInerney says the cold
temperatures will cut the snowmelt in the mountains by 50-percent, and
that will reduce creek flows by more than the rain will deposit. He
calls it an almost perfect run-off scenario with lots of water but no
flooding.
>>Salt Lake
County Home Sales Increase For Third Month (Salt Lake City, UT) --
The Salt Lake Board of Realtors says April home and condo sales in Salt
Lake County rose three-percent in April. President Jillinda Bowers
says that's the third month in a row of increases, and the median price
also went up four-percent. The sales rate is far below last year's
31-percent, but last year anyone could get a mortgage and this year,
you actually have to be financially qualified to get a mortgage.
>>Matheson
Pushes For Radioactive Waste Ban (Salt Lake City, UT) -- A House energy
subcommittee held a hearing on whether to allow low-level radioactive
foreign waste into this country. Energy Solutions in Tooele County
wants to import some Italian waste. Representative Jim Matheson is
sponsoring a bill to ban all foreign waste because he says we shouldn't
be the world's dumping ground and we're also running out of space for
our own waste.
>>Hatch Wishes
Speedy Recovery To Old Friend Ted Kennedy (Washington, DC) -- Senator
Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, and his
long-time friend Senator Orrin Hatch is wishing him well. The conservative
Hatch and the liberal Kennedy have teamed over the years to pass some
major legislation including the Children's Health Insurance Program,
known as CHIP, the Americans With Disabilities Act, and the Ryan White
AIDS Act. Hatch says he hopes Kennedy will fight the tumor with the
same energy he has fought some of Hatch's proposals over the years.
